And God Knows…
During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God.
24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
25 God saw the people of Israel – and God knew.
Exodus 2:23-25
A copy of Exodus 2:23-25 hangs in my tiny cubicle. A place also known as a prison cell, Babylonian captivity, etc. If you have an unfulfilling job, you totally get the additional names.
No one knows for sure whether or not the Hebrew people had a chance to see the great pyramids during their time as Egyptian slaves. If they did, imagine how overwhelming these massive structures must have seemed. These tombs honored the authoritarian Pharaohs, the dynasties that wielded powerful rule over the people. Even today, they are still classified as some of the largest structures on earth.
Whether or not the Hebrews laid eyes on a pyramid, their captors served as representation enough of Egypt’s oppressive political power. In a place they would never call home. A place they would never experience freedom. Their lives—day in day out—carried the burdens of a heavy heart. So they did the one thing that would bring freedom—they cried out to the LORD for help.
Prayer is the one thing that can bring you freedom as well. And along with the other chosen people of God, you can trust that God hears, God remembers, God sees, and God knows.
From this aerial view, not even the pyramids seem that large. Imagine them from heaven’s view.
From inside the cubicle, the work situation is large and oppressive. From heaven’s view? Well, God knows.
Prayer:
Father God, Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for revealing Your heart to me. It is overwhelming and humbling to know that in the midst of the oppressive giant in my life, I can cry out to You, and You hear, You remember, You see, and God, You know. You know the burdens of my heart. I am grateful for your providence, and God, I look forward to my rescue. Don’t delay. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
